Healthcare is never equal. The situations in which individuals are assessed and diagnosed are contingent on a variety of factors—access, medical literacy, and the ability to pay, to name an obvious few—and often times, the standard for treatment is directed towards a heteronormative cis male from a racial majority. Such biased and/or uninformed medical treatments render marginalised peoples, particularly those who identify as women, racial minorities, migrants, and LGBTQIA, vulnerable. The intersection of these identities, especially in postcolonial Hong Kong where cultures of biomedicine and TCM co-exist, further complicate the matter.

In recent years, particularly after the Black Lives Matter movement, there has been increased awareness of how certain patients, depending on their race, gender, and sexuality, have had their descriptions of medical conditions ignored, misunderstood, dismissed or outright denied. This panel gathers individuals, practitioners and patients, who will share their stories in engaging the medical field from a diversity of experiences. Through these narratives, we hope to find possibilities for envisioning a future where medical care is inclusive, compassionate, ethical, and just.

With a one-off sample of their signature physical sunfluff, WULT Beauty stands with equality. First-come-first-served basis while stocks last.
